About this opportunity

GIZ ENBASS gives Senegalese SMEs grants of XOF 2–20 million plus business support in agriculture, tech, and green economy. You must be registered, trading for 1+ year, and able to fund part of your project yourself.

The GIZ ENBASS (Entrepreneuriat et Bonnes pratiques d'Affaires au Sénégal) programme supports SMEs and startups with non-financial business development services, grants for pilot projects, and linkages to financing. It targets enterprises in the green economy, digital, and agri-food value chains, providing technical assistance, market access support, and co-financing for innovation. The programme works in partnership with Senegalese government agencies and the private sector.

Who can apply

  • Formally registered Senegalese SME or startup
  • Operating for at least 1 year
  • Active in agriculture, digital technology, green economy, or agri-food value chains
  • Able to contribute co-financing (your own money or partner funding) to the project
  • Individual enterprises or business associations both welcome

Not eligible

  • Businesses not yet registered with Senegalese authorities
  • Startups or enterprises operating less than 1 year

How to apply, step by step

  1. Monitor the GIZ Senegal office website or contact them directly for calls for proposals, as deadlines are rolling rather than fixed
  2. Prepare your application materials, ensuring your business meets the 1-year trading requirement and your project fits one of the targeted value chains
  3. Submit your application through the GIZ Senegal office's designated channel when a call is open (typically via their office or a partner organisation portal)
  4. Include clear details of how much co-financing you will provide and from what source
  5. Expect GIZ to assess your business eligibility, the environmental and social soundness of your project, and your capacity to deliver
Save and track it and we will email you 14 days, 7 days, 3 days, 24 hours and on the morning of the deadline.

How applications are selected

GIZ reviews applications against commercial, legal, and thematic criteria—they want to confirm you are a real, properly registered business with realistic plans. They also check whether your project could cause environmental or social harm. Approved applicants receive a grant agreement and move into implementation, supported by GIZ's technical advisors. The exact timeline is not published, so ask the GIZ Senegal office when you get in touch.

What reviewers look for

  • Show genuine co-financing: a project where you have real skin in the game scores higher than one where you ask GIZ to pay for everything
  • Link your proposal to one of the four sectors: agriculture, digital, green economy, or agri-food. If your business sits across sectors, make clear which is your primary value chain
  • Demonstrate you have been trading legitimately for at least 12 months—bring bank statements, tax records, or invoices to prove it
  • If your project involves environmental or social risk (land use, chemical inputs, labour practices, waste), address it head-on rather than ignoring it
  • Show you have a capable team. GIZ funds implementation, not just ideas, so proof of experience and past delivery matters

Frequently asked questions

Is there a published deadline I need to meet?

No. GIZ ENBASS runs on rolling calls for proposals. Contact the GIZ Senegal office to find out when the next call opens and what the submission window is.

Can I apply if my business is less than 1 year old?

No. You must have been operating for at least 12 months. This is a fixed eligibility rule.

What does 'co-financing' mean and how much do I need?

Co-financing means you (or your partners) contribute some of your own funds to the project. GIZ will not say exactly what percentage you must provide, but you must show you have real money committed. Start by identifying what you can invest yourself, then ask GIZ what they consider credible.

Can a business association apply, or only individual companies?

Both can apply. A business association that is formally registered and meets the other rules is eligible.

How much grant money can I get?

Between XOF 2,000,000 and XOF 20,000,000 (roughly ₦2.5m–₦24.5m at current rates). The exact amount depends on your project scope and what GIZ agrees with you.

Guide written from the official programme page on 15 October 2026. Funders change their rules, so confirm the details on the official page before you apply.
