The Graduate Entrepreneurship Fund is a Bank of Industry programme run with the NYSC to turn graduates into employers rather than job seekers. It combines entrepreneurship training with funding for the best business plans, and it is one of the most accessible sources of start-up capital for young Nigerians.
Who it is for
Serving NYSC corps members (and, in some cycles, recent graduates) with a viable business idea in sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, technology, fashion, creative industries and services. Expect to prove graduation, NYSC status and a valid ID.
How the process usually works
- Register on the BOI/NYSC GEF portal during an open window.
- Complete the online entrepreneurship training modules.
- Submit a business plan — this is where most applicants fall down.
- Shortlisted plans go to a review panel; successful applicants are funded as a loan on concessional terms.
Always confirm the current cycle, amounts and terms on the official page — see the live GEF listing on GrantPilot, which is checked every day.
What the panel is looking for
- A product people already buy, in a market you can reach from where you serve
- Realistic start-up costs and a 12-month cash flow that shows repayment
- Evidence you have done something: a pilot batch, first customers, supplier quotes
- A clear use of funds — equipment, inputs, working capital — with figures that add up
Prepare in one evening
Generate a plan with the GrantPilot business plan generator (choose “Business Plan”, enter realistic local prices), then run it through the Readiness Score and fix the gaps. Add your CV from the CV builder. Save the GEF listing to your tracker so you get reminders before the window closes.
