A funding business plan is not a school assignment. Reviewers skim; they look for specific sections, specific numbers, and signs that the founder understands the business. This is the structure that scores.
The 12 sections (10–15 pages total)
- Executive summary (1 page) — what, for whom, traction, the ask, the return or impact
- Company overview — legal status, location, mission, history
- Problem & opportunity — quantified, local
- Products/services — what you sell and at what price
- Market analysis — TAM/SAM/SOM with stated assumptions; competitor table
- Marketing & sales — channels, cost to acquire a customer
- Operations — how you make and deliver, suppliers, capacity
- Management & team — named people, relevant experience, hires the funding creates
- Impact — jobs, income, beneficiaries, SDGs with indicators
- Financial plan — 3-year P&L, 12-month cash flow, use of funds, break-even
- Risks & mitigation — a short table
- Funding request & milestones — amount, what it buys, what you will have achieved in 6 and 12 months
The numbers that decide
Unit economics (price, cost, margin), customer acquisition cost versus margin, a cash-flow that never goes negative without explaining how you bridge it, and a use-of-funds table that equals the ask to the naira. Reviewers check these first; if they are wrong, nothing else is read.
Write it in an hour, then make it yours
