NIRSAL Microfinance Bank loans for farmers and SMEs: how they work

NIRSAL MFB is the main channel for CBN agricultural and SME loans. Learn who qualifies, what the application involves and how to prepare.

Updated October 10, 2026 · 1 min read

NIRSAL Microfinance Bank was set up to deliver CBN intervention loans to the people commercial banks ignore: smallholder farmers, agro-processors, artisans and small businesses. Amounts range from small working-capital loans to multi-million-naira facilities for registered SMEs.

Who qualifies

  • Nigerian individuals and registered businesses in agriculture, agro-processing and other SME sectors
  • A BVN, valid ID and verifiable address
  • For SME products: CAC registration, TIN and bank statements
  • For some products: membership of a cooperative or a completed EDP

The application

Applications run through the NIRSAL MFB portal and branches. You describe the business, the amount, the purpose and your repayment plan; agricultural applications are expected to follow the production cycle (inputs now, repayment after harvest). Approval depends on a credible cash flow and on your credit history — settle any outstanding loans first.

Prepare like a professional

Write the plan around the production cycle with real local prices, a monthly cash-flow table and a clear use-of-funds list. The GrantPilot generator (Financial Projection option) builds these tables; the Readiness Score shows how a credit officer will read them. See the live NIRSAL and CBN listings on the Nigeria agriculture funding page.
